The Story

The Bair kept its 1906 soda fountain, its post office boxes and its hardware drawers, and the bistro now serves alongside them. Steilacoom is Washington's oldest incorporated town and this room proves it.

Get here by 07:50 AM or you’re gonna wait a long while. The owner and her one cook run the whole thing, so if you’re not first, be ready to wait a while—but it’s worth it. It’s a great local spot with a wonderful owner who bought the place a decade plus ago and operates it with her husband (I think I caught all those details correctly while dropping eaves during my breakfast). Overall, it was excellent. Definitely better than an IHOP or a Denny’s.

My wife and I both loved the food. My pancakes had this fluffyness to it even though they were skinny. I wanted more syrup, but I thought it was weird that syrup was an extra $3! All in all, the place is a living museum so it had cool antique stuff to look at.

Absolutely loved The Bair Drug & Hardware! We came with friends and young kids and had the best experience. The building is beautifully restored with displays from its post office, hardware, and pharmacy history—so charming and fun to look at. The food was AMAZING. One of our friends is gluten-free and said the gluten-free biscuits and gravy were some of the best she’s ever had, and everyone else loved their meals too. The owner waited on us and was so sweet and welcoming. Between the history, the cuteness, and the incredible food, this place is a total gem. Can’t wait to go back!
