Dirty soda is a fountain drink built like a cocktail: a base soda over pebble ice, a pour of half-and-half or coconut cream, a shot of flavored syrup and usually a squeeze of citrus or a purée. It started in Utah drive-thrus and has spread to shops in nearly every state. Here's every dirty soda counter on The Fizzy Trail.

Good to know

What is a dirty soda?
A base soda — usually Coke, Dr Pepper or Sprite — poured over pebble ice, then "dirtied" with coconut cream or half-and-half, a flavored syrup like vanilla or coconut, and fresh lime or a fruit purée. The cream softens the carbonation and turns the drink silky.
What to order on your first visit
Start with a Dirty Dr Pepper (coconut cream, coconut syrup, lime) — it's the drink that launched the category. If you like it sweeter, try a Dirty Sprite with strawberry purée. Ask for light ice if you want more soda per cup.
Dirty soda vs. an Italian soda
An Italian soda is soda water plus flavored syrup, with cream optional. A dirty soda always starts from a finished branded soda, so the cola or Dr Pepper flavor stays front and center under the cream.
