We stopped at Big Dipper while visiting Helena since it’s only a couple of minutes from the Montana State Capitol and had heard good things. The location is convenient, the shop is clean, and the staff was genuinely friendly and welcoming. They made the experience enjoyable. Unfortunately, the ice cream itself was a disappointment. We tried multiple flavors, and the biggest issue was the chocolate. Every flavor that had chocolate in it had an artificial, almost chemical aftertaste that really threw us off. The texture was fine, but the flavor just wasn’t what we expected from a place that’s so highly rated. If you’re already in the area checking out the Capitol, it’s an easy stop. But if you’re specifically looking for great ice cream, I’d probably recommend trying another shop instead. The Capitol itself is beautiful and worth seeing, so our stop wasn’t a total loss—but the ice cream just didn’t live up to the hype.

My advise is go into the store, don’t door dash because they will change your order and make you pay extra for something you didn’t buy. I paid almost 26 for two, $10.75 each. 2 pints is a quart and one quart, per your site is $13.50. If you only had a quart available then why not charge me for the quart and why not let me know? I had to call and your staff doesn’t think it’s wrong to send the wrong order with out any notification. Do better and stop scamming the public when they door dash. Great place but this was the final issue and won’t be back. $25 for a pint and 1 waffle cone. I have 1 quart and total should be $16 bucks at most.

Stopped by Big Dipper while in Helena and tried the huckleberry ice cream since I wanted to sample Montana’s famous flavor. It was pretty good, sweet, creamy, and definitely unique if you’re not used to huckleberry. The shop has a nice local feel, and it’s a fun place to check out if you’re visiting the area or want to try something distinctly Montanan.

Ice cream is always good customer service tonight Sunday at 8:30. We had a young girl with big hoops in green shirt that treated every customer terrible rolling her eyes at them and the music was so loud. She was more worried about what kind of music she was gonna play then the customers that are paying her wages lately the music has been rap music and way too loud in there The other three kids that were working we’re working their butts off while she was dedicated to try and switching songs and rolling her eyes at customers
