The Story

The familiar red roof and welcoming glow of Braum's on 1st Street in Newton, Kansas, offered a perfect slice of Americana for a sweet, simple stop. Inside, the bright, clean parlor hummed with folks enjoying hearty burgers and heaping scoops of creamy ice cream, a true taste of old-fashioned goodness. It felt like stepping back into a simpler time, where every shake and sundae was a small, joyful celebration.

Their ice cream tasted just like how my grandpa and grandma used to make! It was so good! Their burgers were delicious, and their fries were GREAT! They were perfectly evenly salted. Overall this was a great place to stop!

I’m giving three stars because food is high-quality, and delicious, but the management here is extremely disorganized. You could tell that the manager was frustrated, but yelling at your workers in front of customers, telling them to do one thing and then when they do that you tell them to go do something different is unacceptable. The cashiers were almost in tears because she kept changing her mind on what she wanted them to do and where she wanted them to go. The cashier apologized for the confusion, but it wasn’t the cashier’s problem. When stores are disorganized, it doesn’t have to do with the fact that it’s high school kids working there. I would say the highschoolers have more emotional intelligence than the manager does. Training needs to happen at the top, you need to watch surveillance cameras, especially and see exactly what the manager is doing. There needs to be more organization, each person needs to have a station and they need to stay at that station. She needs to have written breaks as opposed to not being clear. For example, the cashier didn’t seem to ever have gotten a break that day and the manager gave her a lecture about how she didn’t need a break because she was just leaving. It’s illegal for her not to have a break. The store compared to the store in Tulsa has the exact same layout, and the exact same offerings. The one in Tulsa that we went to the coworker support each other. The manager is walking around, asking how everything is wiping down the tables. This was the exact opposite. All you’re doing is teaching these young adults who presumably it’s their first job is that there’s a huge difference between a good and a bad manager and this is definitely a place with bad managers.

Came from NYC and we wanted some ice cream! Turns out this spot had a cute grocery store as well! Hubby got the strawberry shortcake sundae and I got one scoop (more like 2 lol) of their holiday special, eggnog ice cream. It was very delicious! Prices were also very fair. Service was also good, could be better, but they all looked under 21. Overall, we will be back next time we are in Kansas!

This is not the best Braums. The management could use a reality check. There's no need to yell and belittle your employees, especially in front of customers. Learn some people skills and your coworkers will work better. The staff does there best and are friendly and courteous. The food is Braums food gotta love it.
