The Story

Four generations of the Karandzieff family have run Crown Candy in Old North St. Louis since 1913. The booths, the Coke memorabilia and the handmade chocolates are original; the five-malt challenge is not for tourists. Come hungry, expect a wait.

What a great place that has survived since 1915. We try to get here at least once each year which isn’t enough. Always get a milkshake when you come! Had the banana this time and it was oversized made with real ice cream and banana. The Rueben is a perfect balance of corned beef, sauerkraut and thousand island on rye. Others had the Big Grilled Cheese and chocolate shakes which were all great too. Grabbed some candy on the way out and even some to ship to some family in Vermont! It’s that good. Weekday afternoons are a great time to stop in and avoid any lines.

First time here. I really liked the food and want to come back for more. The BLT is as advertised. Too much but, hey save half for later. The chili and chili Mac was delicious. The Turkey bacon mets were also very good. The roast beef and cheddar was good as well. The Sundays are delicious too. Did not have the candy but they have a large selection and you can order online. Staff were courteous and professional. The place is as advertised. All of the tables either seat 4 or 2 in booths so it is not good for groups larger that 4. It is possible to have conversations at your booth. Not too loud. They have outdoor seating across the seat - they pack your lunch picnic style. I hope to have lunch here again. It's a historical gem for St. Louis.

This place is so awesome like a little time capsule from the wall decor, the ice cream bar or the little retro jukebox on every table. The service was awesome the employees where very nice and helpful and happy to answer all of are questions. We got a raspberry ice cream, 2 strawberry milkshakes and a butterscotch malt. When I say this was some of the best ice cream I have ever had it was so good, they have actual food as well we sadly didn't know that before going so we didn't eat anything but we saw some plates and it looked pretty good portion size. Now there was a wait so plan for that but there where moving people out pretty quick. I would highly recommend it you have the time and are in the area was a really cool experience
