The Story
On the most famous gambling street in the Black Hills, the Soda Saloon pours sarsaparilla and birch beer across a wooden bar. It's the most historically accurate drink order in town, whatever the movies say.

Well now, I reckon I've ridden through more saloons than most folks have had hot suppers, and the Deadwood Soda Saloon is the finest watering hole this side of the Black Hills. The bartender was quicker than a six-shooter with a smile, mixed up mighty fine drinks, and treated every soul like an old friend. The service was faster than a galloping horse, the prices were fair as a straight poker game, and every sip was worth coming back for. If you're passin' through Deadwood and don't stop here, you're missin' one of the best saloons in town. Five stars, and that's a promise from Billy the Kid!

This place is such a gem in Deadwood. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere pulls you straight into Old West charm—gorgeous chandeliers, historic details, and the most fun seating ever (yes, the horse bar stools are as cool as they look). The soda bar is fantastic, and the fact that they make their root beer in-house truly sets them apart. You can taste the difference. There are so many creative flavor combinations and house-made sodas, making it fun for kids and adults alike. What really made this visit special, though, was the owners themselves. They actually sat with us and shared that they opened the soda fountain specifically to give families and kids more to enjoy in Deadwood. You can genuinely feel that intention in every part of the experience—from the welcoming atmosphere to the thoughtful details throughout the space. Add in the friendly staff, the unique gifts and candy (the rock candy selection is a hit), and this becomes more than just a place to grab a drink—it’s an experience and a memory. If you’re visiting Deadwood with family, this is an absolute must-stop. We’ll definitely be back.

Very family friendly with a saloon feel. My kids loved the soda tasting of their house made soda they settled on the root beer and birch beer. I enjoyed all three however my favorite was the sarsaparilla. Great place and we plan on returning this trip.
