My visit to Golden Rod was fantastic from start to finish! The food came out incredibly fast, and everything was fresh and cooked perfectly. The French fries were hot, crispy, and absolutely delicious. Their famous chicken definitely lives up to the hype and way better then the other guys 😉It was flavorful, juicy, and not overly greasy, which made it even better. The burger was one of the best parts of the meal. It tasted just like a homemade cookout, as if Mom made the burger while Dad grilled it to perfection. It had that comforting, homemade flavor that's hard to find at most restaurants. The only suggestion I have is to expand the outdoor dining area. I understand parking space can make that difficult, but it would be wonderful to have a little more room to enjoy a meal outside or wait for your order , especially with umbrellas for shade during the warmer months. Overall, Golden Rod serves outstanding comfort food with quick service and a welcoming atmosphere. I'll definitely be coming back!

As you can see, I have a lot of reviews on Google and I have even more on Yelp. As a recent transplant to Manchester, I heard about this restaurant as a must-have for chicken tenders and ice cream. Frankly, I'd come here just for the ice cream. The restaurant itself, and this pains me to say, isn't very good. I know it's a local institution, an Institution thats been around for over 300 years, but frankly this food just lacks a lot of flavor and quality. It is closer to college or hospital cafe. I will be blunt and say that the age group for the restaurant is strictly under 20 years old and over 60 years old. It's a decent value for a family, but if you want chicken tenders and amazing ice cream... just go to the Puritan restaurant. This place is on par with Raising Cane, and maybe not as good. I know locals will poo poo this review, but as I you can see I have a lot more experience dining out and I want to set expectations for those who are visiting or recent transplants. Come here once, and you probably won't come back again like we won't... 😑

Hot and perfectly fried chicken tenders, scallops and fries. The clam chowder was delicious. Great prices for huge portions too!

You can still feed a family for $20-30 here — $50 if you get seafood, or ice cream for dessert. They have a wide selection, and most of it I wouldn't call vastly inflated like other reviewers have said. This is the only place that you can still get a fresh delicious lobster roll with a side for $20, though I would definitely get their golden crispy fries over the minced cole slaw. This is close enough to home, and after properly looking at the menu today I clearly need to visit more often. The time from order to receiving your food is a bit delayed, but it just offers an opportunity to take in the warm and airy Summer atmosphere.
