The Story
Hinsch's has been a Fifth Avenue institution since 1948 — booths, backbar, and a candy case up front. It has flickered off and on over the years, and each time the neighborhood dragged it back. Sit at the counter, get a malted, and you're in a Brooklyn that mostly exists in photographs.

Diner with candy and chocolate... When I got into the place, it felt like time slowed down for some reason. The food took a while to come but when it did, it was pretty good. The service was slow but friendly. The dessert was really good as well. The whole experience felt like you step back in time when you just go and get a nice good normal meal without the bells and whistles.

Was at Hinsch's one Tuesday afternoon in late February 15. All I can say was it was a bad experience. The hot appetizers were served a minute or 2 after being ordered, shortly after about 5 minutes the mains were served. The timing of this suggests the food was pre cooked and re heated and thats the way it tasted. A burger was part of the meal and it was dry and tasteless, fries and onion rings tasted like oil. Now how can you ruin these staples of an American diner, how'd this stuff make it out of the kitchen? No quality control? The rest of the meal had the same issues. Nice bright place but the food was bad. Hinsch's used to be a lot better, I won't be returning. BTW has New York Health Department Restaurant Grade B. Should've turned around and went somewhere else. I came here last week after a visit to the dentist and I'm so happy I stopped here! I had a cheeseburger deluxe my son had a bacon cheeseburger deluxe and I had the best chocolate milkshake I cannot wait to go back and try the other items on the menu I'm looking forward to trying fried chicken LOL the service was exceptional see you guys soon! :)
