  Icy Strait Point is located in the town of Hoonah on Chichagof Island where one’s Alaska adventure truly begins. From walking the halls of a century-old salmon cannery to soaring over thick forest on the world’s largest zip rider, every experience is steeped in the natural beauty and deep stories of this place. This is the most “natural” port of call on our day 3 and the only private cruise ship destination in Alaska owned by the local tribes. Our excursion consisted of a red gondola for up to six people to the top of the mountain; one would see the bay, mountains, cruise lines, and wonderful, amazing views. One can hike to a hidden lake and a cave. It can also be a good location to see bald eagles and a nest. The green gondola is free and transports one to the Cannery. It is very well designed and blends in with the landscape. Inside there are some very well-laid-out and spacious shops, together with an interesting museum. What’s missing? High priced jewelry stores and a slew of trinket shops. Great place for adventure activities!

  We stopped here while our cruise ship was in port. It's a beautiful, peaceful spot by the water. We paid to ride the tramway to the top—it's definitely pricey (about $55 per ticket), but worth it for the experience and the views as it's a smaller town. Thankfully, there were food and snack options at the top. Afterward, we took the shuttle into town and had lunch at The Fishermen's Daughter, which was absolutely amazing. We had planned to check out the brewery afterward, but unfortunately local regulations don't allow minors, and we were with our toddler, so we had to skip it. Overall, it was still a great stop and a memorable experience.

  The best port, by far, on Viking Venus. The only privately owned port - owned by Native Tribe- in North America. When you exit the ship, you are immediately in a beautiful town filled with culture and respect for the beautiful natural environment. No parking lot greets you and no buses! Everything is accessible via a gondola that takes you around - up and over the mountain- to great shops, activities, restaurants, and plenty of wildlife viewings. Elders from the tribe are around to give you the history of Hoonah, Alaska. Jack, one of the elders, shared the history of the town was this year as ine of the memorable highlights of our visit. I highly recommend you stopping in this town and sitting at the fire pit where the elders gather. The story is worth hearing.

  Nice little place to visit. Some gondolas to ride, trails to walk. The big zipline is cool, but very expensive. There are all the obligatory gift shops. There is a cool ropes course, but it wasn't open on the day we were there. The walk to Hoonah is nice. Not a lot in town, but good to see how the locals live. The tribal dance show was good. We like to support local indigenous culture. It was done by keen teenagers singing, telling and dancing the story of creation according to their traditions in the performance we watched.
