The Story

The old Victorian walls of Jimmy T's hum with quiet stories, a cozy refuge from the Capitol Hill bustle. Inside, the simple, honest aroma of griddle cakes and coffee welcomes you like a long-lost friend. Every bite here feels like a taste of yesterday, served with a genuine smile and a whole lot of heart.

What a little hidden gem! Cute spot that’s cash only. I love all the random decor. They have a solid menu, no frills, exactly how I like it. The staff are all very friendly and the chef even made sure we were happy with our breakfast. I had the French toast, sausage, and egg combo. It was exactly what I needed and hit the spot.

I really don’t get the appeal. It’s like going to someone’s house and sitting at a super small table and getting cheap food that tastes pretty basic. I guess if you’re looking for a homey vibe and are a regular, maybe?? But no reservations, cash only, no menus (just up on the whiteboard, hard to read), and so crowded that it’s difficult to move around…not for me. I will say, however, the service is fantastic. The staff is wonderful. It’s so small, in an old row home, and there’s only a few folks working and they do a great job. But, the atmosphere and food is not something I would go back for…especially with so many amazing options close.

The food was okay, the omelette was priced well and tasted good. However, the home fries were just a *small* potato cut into slices and fried, which was very unexpected. And I mean there may have been like 8 slices of these fries for $4. The water had dust in it and when we requested a new water the waiter just brought the jug again to refill the cups, but there was nothing to refill. Usually I would take pictures of the food but there was nothing worth it to take.

A family owned place that's been open for 60 years has all the small diner vibes in a historic building. Don't let the gracefully aged appearance affect walking in. What a warm fun environment. Cindy the owner and cook is engaging and fun and very knowledgeable about D C. Her pride of ownership and skill at the grill are a joy to watch. If you need a fancy brunch that's not here. If you want truly old school quality food for an outstanding value...Jimmy T's is the place. How refreshing a spot after dealing with too much city chaos!
