My sister and I stopped in at Monarch while driving home from New Mexico. We arrived only about 20 minutes before they closed but we were greeted by the owner, Kelly, who promptly served us at the soda counter despite experiencing a rush in the pharmacy. Once things had calmed down for her, Kelly took the time to visit with us and another couple from Europe and told us the history of her business and the surrounding area. Kelly's hospitality was definitely one of the top highlights of our eastward Route 66 journey. If I ever find myself back in Baxter Springs, I will look forward to enjoying another old fashioned soda at this gem of an business!

They weren't technically open for soda and ice cream when we stopped by, but they chose to let my family in so we could have a treat! It's a modern take on a throwback format, with a soda shop in an actual working pharmacy. The soda and ice cream were great and the staff was friendly and talented. Loved it!
