The Story
The cozy, narrow storefront of New City Microcreamery beckoned like a familiar friend, a beacon of sweet relief on a bustling Cambridge street. Inside, the vibrant retro parlor hummed with happy chatter, a comforting backdrop to the scoopers crafting scratch-made delights. Each spoonful of rich, homemade ice cream and every sip of locally sourced coffee was a pure taste of simple, honest-to-goodness joy.

A local on the T recommended this local ice desk shop. My daughter ordered a scoop of the strawberry ice cream with real berries inside. My wife got the peppermint non-dairy one. My daughter loved hers. Overall, it was a fine ice cream but not earth shattering. There are places to sit and a clean restroom in the back.

Small spot, good ice cream. Various scoop sizes and cones. I had raspberry chip and chocolate scoops. Chocolate was the bomb. Easy seating outside.

honestly, amazing ice cream. HOWEVER, the service was so rude that it completely ruined the joyous experience of getting ice cream on a warm summer friday evening. i’m at the front of the line and the employee does not greet me, acknowledge me, or speak. she is simply staring at my face while putting on her gloves. i patiently wait for her to give me some indication that she’s ready to take my order, but she continues to stare me down in silence. eventually, i ask “are you ready?” and she replies “yes…” as though i should have somehow known. as a first time customer, i ask to try three samples. she rolls her eyes at this. i pick a flavor and ask for it in a kiddie cone and she asks me very rudely what kind. i didn’t realize there was more than one cone for the kiddie—i thought it was just the smallest one they had. i ask what the options are. she tells me waffle and sugar. i’ve never had either (again, my first time) so ask which she’d recommend. she replies, “whatever you like more” in a very condescending tone. when i ask if she could point them out to me, she rolls her eyes yet again. i’ve worked in customer service for over 5 years, so mind you, during this entire interaction, i’m smiling, saying please and thank you, and doing my best to be as polite as possible. the service was so uncomfortable and unwelcoming that after i finished my ice cream outside, i hesitated to go back inside to wash my hands because i wanted to avoid another interaction. please do better.
