I have been coming to Novel Ice Cream for years now, and ever since my first visit to the Phoenix location, it has been my favorite place for ice cream. Now that they have a Mesa location, it is a little more convenient for me, as I currently live in Chandler. Even with the different locations, the high-quality product remains intact. I like the location of Mesa Novel Ice Cream because not only is there a lot to do nearby, but it is also a nice area to walk around when it is not too hot outside. There is also a nice coffee shop just a little walk away from the shop. The service at both locations is friendly, and every worker has been fun to talk to, especially when it is not busy and they have some time to spare. They are also happy to offer suggestions, whether it is ice cream flavors or delicious combinations that would pair well with their Dough Melt. While the vast majority of ice cream flavors complement the Dough Melt, the sorbets are hit and miss with the Dough Melt, but by themselves, their sorbets are some of the most refreshing sorbets you can have. I recommend Novel Ice Cream to anyone in the Mesa area; it has the best ice cream in Arizona, in my opinion. I also encourage everyone to try their Dough Melt at least once, as it is unbelievable.

One of my friends raved about this place and told me I needed to check it out. I was impressed by their limited but highly rated menu and late hours. So we took a 30 minute drive to see if the hype was valid. My kids all wanted the Cookie Monster - one in a cup, one in a cone and one sandwiched in a warm donut. I needed a gluten friendly option, so I went with a scoop of Madagascar Vanilla and Straight Up Strawberry. Here was the feedback: Cookie Monster Dough melt - “The donut tasted like a sweet, buttery, warm, honey butter croissant. As you kept eating, you get a hint of the ice cram. It was more donut than ice cream which was perfect for me. The only thing I would’ve wanted is more cookie in the ice cream. The warm donut was unexpected but really good. I recommend and would definitely get it again.” -13 year old Cookie Monster in a cup - “The ice cream was good. It tasted like a cookie with chocolate chunks in the ice cream - not in the cookie.. I would’ve added more cookie in the ice cream. I wish it didn’t turn my mouth and teeth blue, but I would recommend and get it again.”. - 10 year old Cookie Monster on a waffle cone - “I think it tasted good. I like it. I liked how it turned my mouth blue. I like the cookie inside because it would’ve tasted plain without it.” 7 year old My review: One scoop of Madagascar Vanilla and one scoop of Straight Up Strawberry - I liked the variation of the two flavors and how they complimented each other. The Strawberry ice cream was certainly the star. The texture of the ice cream was creamy and smooth. The taste was not overpowering and was subtly sweet. I enjoyed it and would definitely recommend! Overall the location is super cute and we felt it was worth the drive. We will be back!

Yesterday in Phoenix 33-34 degrees Celsius 🥵 perfect time to enjoy 3 scoops of ice cream from our favorite hand-batched ice cream shop. Eating ice cream while watching sunset 🌅 sooo blessed. Seriously my hubby is an ice cream snoot and he said Novel ice-cream best in the world and we travel all over for those who know us. Who else will drive 45 mins to get ice-cream only?😅 Hubby had 2 scoops of Bourbon with toffee bits (both our favorites as you can really taste the bourbon) and Vanilla Madascar , I had the 1 scoop bourbon, 1 scoop butter pecan soooo good , 1 scoop strawberry. Wished they had more bigger chunks of strawberry. But my all time favorite was having the hot donut filled with bourbon and toffee bits ice cream. I’ve had that twice before but didn’t review. The texture & unique flavours out of this world. Yes even better than Chemistry ice cream per my hubby. A must visit if you’re in Phoenix Arizona, they have 2 locations now. Novel Ice Cream was outstanding. I tried the Peanut Butter Wasted flavor and it was the best ice cream I’ve had in a long time. Rich peanut butter flavor, perfect texture, and every bite tasted fresh. The staff was friendly and helpful. I’ll definitely be coming back to try more flavors.
