We came to TATES Old Fashioned for some Ice Cream and once we stepped in, it took us back in time. The whole place has that retro Americana feel. Route 66 signs, Coca-Cola decorations, black-and-white checkered floors. Felt like one of those old roadside diners from the 1950s. Honestly, the place has so much personality, not just another ice cream shop. The people working there were super friendly and nice too, which made it even better. I kept it simple and got a chocolate scoop in a waffle bowl. The ice cream was super creamy and refreshing. The chocolate flavor was rich but smooth. Classic

Buttery smooth texture, rich flavors (praline; peanut butter chocolate). Reasonable price for local, homemade, fresh ice cream. Excellent service. Lovely, charming atmosphere reminiscent of bygone era. Close enough to Lagrange’s, but easy enough to find parking on a Friday evening.

Ice cream is mediocre at best. I would go to highland queen or oberweis if you want a better ice cream and experience. The one plus is that it is so conveniently located near the restaurants in La Grange. One of the employees charged my 7 year old another 8 dollars after some kid knocked her ice cream on the floor. It didn’t feel right calling the employee or the kid out with the line behind us but that ice cream should have been comped. Someone told me the lady who helped us is the owner and she puts gold coins in the park for kids but that did not seem like the way an owner that liked k

This place brings you back to a time gone by and when things were simpler and wholesome. The inside has several tables and chairs that allow you to enjoy the atmosphere and nostalgia of things enjoyed when you were a kid. They offer a slew of options to consume. You will be able to find something to fulfill your sweet tooth be it either homemade ice cream, chocolate malts, or the assortment of candies. The chocolate malt was made as we waited.
