Ice cream was pretty good, but I honestly would have gone somewhere else if I had seen this sign before I paid. This is a crazy way to tell customers that you don’t want to take the necessary precautions to accommodate a food allergy. As someone with a severe peanut & tree nut allergy, I’ve always been told soft serve (standard chocolate and vanilla) was a safe choice (it’s separate from the hard ice cream, the nozzle gets cleaned, etc). Apparently that’s not the case here? The girl at the counter (she was super nice and this review is not about her, it’s about the company) told us that they couldn’t guarantee the soft serve was safe because someone could have touched nuts and then touched the machine. Which I thought was a little strange considering I have never heard that from any ice cream place before and I’ve traveled all over the country. Anyway, blueberry hill ice cream in Ellsworth has really yummy soft serve and anyone with a nut allergy looking for a safe choice should go there instead :)

I was camping in the Bar Harbor area when we decided to get some ice cream for a small dinner at Utter Heaven after a long day at Acadia. We pulled up around 8:05 and were shocked to see the signs saying “Sorry, we’re Closed.” We went up to the window to hopefully get an understanding of why they were closed before 8:30 (that’s what it said on Google). They kindly explained how the times were different than those online, they still offered to take our order, after getting the managers approval. These employees were so kind and the ice cream was delicious (and very generous). We sat down with some friends to enjoy some ice cream. That’s when the owner came out to collect trash from the trash cans, and he stopped to chat with us several times. He’s such a generous, kind and hardworking man, and we knew this within minutes of meeting him. We love you Bob!! We even assisted in taking down the American flag. It was a great experience - the kind welcome, excellent ice cream and customer service. We highly recommend! Thanks SO much Bob, try to stay warm.

Incredible ice cream and even better service! We pulled in a few minutes after closing, sad to see that we were too late, when the sweetest man came out and offered to bring us a quick scoop. He recommended the Maine Blueberry and Cookie Butter - both were amazing. His kindness completely made our day! We couldn’t believe our good luck. This will be one of the best memories of our trip to Bar Harbor.

This is the place to go for ice cream in Bar Harbor! The portions are huge and the ice cream was so smooth and delicious! Our group tried the dark chocolate, cookie butter, and lemon gingersnap. All were amazing, but the dark chocolate was our favorite! Staff is also very kind; the sweet girl at the register tonight answered all our questions and was very patient! This is a must-do if you are in the area!
