Wayside Country Store

The Story
Wayside has stood on the Boston Post Road since George Washington was president, and the candy counter is still the reason children drag parents through the door. Bottled sarsaparilla and a cone on the porch is the full experience.

Well at first from looking at there website I thought I was in for an adventure. But when we got their the disappointment set in right away. It was nice to look at but imo everything was just overpriced. I don't want to be all negative because I did buy a few things but unless you want to pay 40.00 lb for chocolate and 20.00 lb for fudge this just wasn't for us. But it was a nice Sunday drive. Happy candy hunting all!!!!🍭🍬🍫

This is such a magical place and I grew up savoring my visits here as a kid. Virtually nothing has changed over the last 30 years and they have the best selection of penny candy and fudge. I just wish the staff were a bit friendlier. I stopped in with my child as we were in the area around 4:00; they closed at 5:00. The three young women working looked annoyed that we were there and didn't so much as look up or greet us despite being the only customers in the store at the time, then were further annoyed when I asked for help getting penny candy.

This historical store is jam packed with New England products from maple syrup to pottery. They have something for everyone and the wide pine floors and antique display cases make you feel like you are in an early American country store. The separate candy store wing has long rows of candy, toys and more as well as hand made chocolates and fudge. A great place to shop for that little something special. The ambiance alone is worth the trip!
